Monday Writing Corner

Hello!

*Disclaimer: This was pre-written and scheduled to come out today*

Today is Monday, oh such a dreadful day. Though once you get to know Monday, you slowly fall in love, as it is a day to start over, start over of your feelings, start over with relationships, and you get to laugh and smile with your friends.

Today, I’m feeling sort of different, I feel like I’m sort of powerful. Somewhat like I could be something or somebody else. Like I could take another personality.

So, today I want to write something opposite of me. Maybe an arrogant character! Or an evil one, with no heroine in the story… That’d be nice.

I already started with something, so, the challenge I have for you:

Use at least 10+ sentences from other books you like and incorporate them into your story.

My ten sentences come from all YA books, and here they are:

/1.) “I am a weapon made of flesh, a sword covered in skin. I was born to kill a king, to end a reign of terror before it can truly begin.”

/2.) “To rise. And rise alone.”

/3.) “Sometimes, the sun sets earlier. Days don’t last forever, you know. But I’ll fight as hard as I can. I can promise you that.”

/4.) “I love you,” he whispers. “Can you stay awhile?”

/5.)“She moved like a poem and smiled like a sphinx.”

/6.) “What is so great about being good?”

/7.) “She was fire, and light, and ash, and embers. She was Demura Valencia , and she bowed for no one and nothing, save the crown that was hers by blood and survival and triumph.”

/8.) “If you’re a monster, I’m a monster.”

/9.) “I was not a pet, not a doll, not an animal.

I was a survivor, and I was strong.

I would not be weak, or helpless again

I would not, could not be broken. Tamed.”

/10.) “He thinks he’ll be remembered as the villain in the story. But I forgot to tell him that the villain is usually the person who locks up the maiden and throws away the key. He was the one who let me out.”

I feel like the 10th one will challenge me, as I have to add something to the story, something of an element of goodness and SJM!

Let’s start with the basics.

The character I’d like to start with, I’d want her name to be Demura Valencia. I also want her to have a style of fashion, maybe gothic assassin? I’m not sure. So, I went to check out Pinterest and found a pretty good outfit. You can find it here.

I also created then a pinboard of ideas for Demura Valencia. You can find it here.

I also wanted to create Demura, as a character that had been good once, so I created another pinboard for good characters, which you can find here.

I feel like I accomplished some sort of a character, that has a personality. Though, I want to write down those traits.

Demura: Arrogant, evil, strong, and rude.

Though, I want her to have a weakness of having a heart. Maybe a relationship to a prince.

So, I began writing and started with the title Yet I Live

I don’t want the prologue to be full of info, so I started with something mysterious.

IF YOU CAME ONLY FOR THE STORY, THIS IS WHERE IT BEGINS!

Prologue:

“I  am a weapon made of flesh—“ she gasped out for air, “— a sword covered in skin.” She continued, “ I was born to kill a king, to end a reign of terror before it can truly begin.” And she stabbed him, the king…

And she yelled to his followers, his soldier, “I was meant to rise, to rise alone.”

She stepped back and sat on the throne made of glass.

“The king, he murdered, ruthlessly, my family,” Demura spoke softly. “The king, he had no heart of sorts.”

“Now die.” And knives flew at the soldiers. Blood burst from their eyes.

She was dangerous, she was fury, she was powerful. She would rise. Rise higher than others.

That’s all I have today for you, hope to see you soon!
